Description and Notes:
Fleet data: The recent number of Starfleet designs had called for larger, more expensive and time-consuming vessels capable of performing a number of roles. The Intrepid Class was designed to counter this way of thinking and return to the formation of smaller, faster, more effective starships that could continue the exploration of the galaxy. The Intrepid Class used many unique designs, among them the first ship of its size to be capable of planetary landing and flight. This class also introduced the bioelectric gel-packs: a new way of transmitting computer data quickly and efficiently. Although not designed for heated combat the Intrepid Class is designed to take a considerable beating and still be able to flee the scene for help. Ten ships of this line have been built and another eighty-nine are proposed.
Noteworthy vessels:
U.S.S. Intrepid (prototype), U.S.S. Voyager (crossed into the Delta Quadrant), USS Bellerophon
